Guinea pig expert
Our new summer topic is 'growth' and we have been looking at a new book called Christopher Nibble by Charlotte Middleton all about a guinea pig who loves dandelions. At the start of this topic we were lucky enough to have a visit from a guinea pig expert and her guinea pigs Romeo and Ronnie. We asked her lots of fantastic questions about guinea pigs and found out lots of information like what they eat, where they live and how to take care of one!
Christopher Nibble Performance
We watched the performance of the story of Christopher Nibble in a play. It really helped us understand the story line and characters.
We have been looking at what a plant needs to grow. We have planted our own beans, have been observing their changes and are recording what we find in a bean diary.
Meet our new class pets! We have been watching and learning about the transformation of caterpillars into butterflies. They were tiny when we first got them but look how much they have grown! They turned into chrysalises after about 9 days and then after 2 weeks beautiful butterflies emerged! We had lots of fun setting them free and watching them fly round the flowers. Sometimes they come back to visit us and we see them in the garden!
Art with Jaqui Smith
We have been very busy being artists this term as we got to work alongside the wonderful Jaqui Smith looking at the artist Georgia O'Keeffe. The children looked at different flowers and recreated them using different techniques. We focused on adding textures by mixing things like salt, flour and filler into our paint. We also added more depth by sticking on buttons, seeds and tissue paper. We collaborated to create a big flower canvas which is now proudly displayed in our classroom. Take a look at some of the masterpieces we produced ...
