Exploring people from the past
(Through Literacy and History)
We have been learning about some great explorers from the past. We used the computers to research about Captain Robert Scott and Roald Amundsen. Then we learnt the story of 'The Great Race to the South Pole' and re-told it in our own words. We looked at the conditions for explorers in the past and present and decided whether we would like to be an explorer today or an explorer in the past.
We have been working with Steve Brown to compose a song linked to our key texts for the half term, 'The Lonely Beast' and 'The Great Explorer'. We called our song 'The Beast and Tom'. We wrote the lyrics together then added instruments to the music. Each class performed their song to the rest of Year 2.
Exploring in Science
This half term we have been learning all about materials and their properties. We carried out an experiment to find out which material is the best to keep Tom dry on his adventure. We found out which materials were waterproof and which were absorbent.
Egg Protector Experiment
We carried out another materials experiment to find out which material were best to protect an egg. We used recycled materials to create our egg protector with a partner. We made a prediction then tested it by dropping our egg protector from a height with our egg inside!
Exploring in Art
We have been exploring David Hockney's landscape artwork. We experimented with colour mixing to create colours, shapes and patterns in Hockney's artwork.
