Marvellous Me!

Our first half term topis this year is 'Marvellous Me' This theme is a great way of starting our new journey in Year 1 and helps us to focus on what is amazing and unique about us and the friendships we have.

Our core text is, 'Who are you?' By Smriti Halls.

In Art we are learning about the life and work of Pablo Picasso.

We looked at Picasso's famous art work 'The Weeping Woman' and discussed the lines and shapes and colours that we could see. We used viewfinders to explore and recreate the lines and shapes and colours

In PE we have been learning about football. We have been practising our dribbling skills, stopping the ball with our feet and using the inside of our feet to pass the ball.

We had a visit from our local scientist Steven Lewis Neill. With him we went to our outdoor classroom and explored how our forest school changes during the Autumn time. We had a great time learning about different funguses, searching for spider webs, and the changes to plants. We also found different mini beasts and made comparisons to ourselves to link to all our learning about our bodies.

In English we have finished our half term writing some autumn poetry. We went into forest school to observe the changes to the leaves and used our senses to describe how they, looked, felt and sounded. We came up with some wonderful and interesting vocabulary before using this to write some incredible poems.
