This half term we will be considering the impact of human actions on the world around us - with a particular focus on litter and how we can help to keep Nelson tidy.

After looking at the poem 'What is Pink' the children created a mind map of all the other items they could think of that were our key colours. We then created our own group colour poem, added actions and performed them to the rest of the class. 

In History we have been learning about David Attenborough’s life and achievements. Particularly focusing on his efforts to protect our planet and the impact of climate change. 

In Design Technology we are learning about the inspirational life and achievements of architect Zaha Hadid in preparation for our project of designing and making a model of a new mosque for Nelson using recycled materials. We explored local buildings and structures around our local area and looked closely at how the bricks are placed. We discussed the key features of a good structure.

Today we worked with our local scientist Steven Lewis Neil. First we looked for signs of Spring and talked about what we will see as the seasons change. We then went mini beast hunting and made habitats for them based on their needs. We found out that lots of mini beasts like to hide in dark, damp places where they can keep safe! 

In DT we have been designing, investigating building secure structures and making a mosque. We looked at key features we would like to include and created them using our choice of materials whilst exploring joining and sticking. 

Throughout this unit of learning the children have shown a wonderful understanding of the implications of human  actions on our local area and the wider world and have taken action to tidy up and look after our beautiful town of Nelson.
