This half term we will be considering the impact of human actions on the world around us - with a particular focus on litter and how we can help to keep Nelson tidy.
Our core texts this half term are 'What a waste' by Jess French and '10 things I can do to help my world' by Melanie Walsh.
We have been learning about the life and work of David Attenborough and why he is important. We found out that he is a famous broadcaster and naturalist who has spent many years exploring the natural world and sharing it with people through wildlife programmes such as Planet Earth and Blue Planet. We learned how his documentaries show animals and habitats from around the world and help people understand how amazing nature is. We also talked about how he encourages everyone to look after our planet and protect wildlife for the future.
After looking at lots of images of litter dumped and dropped around Nelson we brainstormed lots of questions we would like to ask to get to the bottom of the problem.
Following on from this we went on a local litter pick around our school to help our community, make a difference and tidy up the streets ourselves!
This half term we are focusing on using the exclamation mark and question mark punctuation correctly. After our litter pick we wrote our own exclamation sentences and questions.
We created a class pledge and thought of lots of different ways we could make a difference to our environment and our world!
