Welcome to Class 5!

Our teachers are Mrs Williams, Mrs Kauser (full time), Mrs Harries (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday morning) and Mrs Liaqat ( Wednesday afternoon, Thursday and Friday).  

In Year 1 children make the transition from the Foundation Stage to the National Curriculum. Their confidence blossoms as they quickly develop the skills to become even more independent in their learning. We learn through practical and concrete activities and work as a team to develop our knowledge and understanding.

We look forward to a very busy and fun year where we will all have our time to shine!

Welcome to Year 1

Phonics Screening Meeting.

P.E Day

Class 5's P.E day is Thursday. Please ensure your child comes to school on this day wearing their P.E uniform and has their school water bottle.

Our school P.E uniform is black jogging bottoms, a white t-shirt and black pumps.

Home reading books

An adult will read with your child in school at least once a week. Their home reading book will be changed on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday if they have read at home. (Unless they have a longer text that they need more time to read- this will be changed when they have finished their text).

Please read with your child at home for 10 minutes each day to help develop their decoding, fluency and comprehension skills. Please write a comment and sign in your child's reading record when you have read with them. If you need any help with how to support your child with reading at home please speak to a member of staff in class. 

Home Learning

In Year 1 children will receive a piece of English and Maths home learning each week. Their home learning books will be sent home on a Wednesday. Please support your child with their home learning and return them on a Monday. If you are ever unsure of how to help your child complete the home learning task, please speak to a member of staff in class. Thank you.

Our knowledge hands show the 'knowledge' we expect your child to learn and remember each half term for all subjects. You could use these knowledge hands at home to ask your child questions about their learning.

Our vocabulary mats will help you at home to 'pre-teach' your child the new vocabulary they need for their topic, each half term.
