Our first half term topic this year is 'Marvellous Me'. This theme is a great way of starting our new journey in Year 1 and helps us to focus on what is amazing and unique about us and the importance of friendship and family.
Our core text is What Will Danny Do Today? By Pippa Goodhart
For our first Forest School session we talked about our facial features and used natural materials to create pictures of our faces.
In Geography we are learning about our local area. We went on a journey around the perimeter of school to see what features we could spot.
In Art we had Miss Smith in to help us learn all about Pablo Picasso and his artwork. We made some fantastic line drawings with lots of detail and also started creating faces in Picassos’s style with other items.
In science we have been learning about our body parts and our five senses! We did an experiment to test how we would cope with removing one of our senses. We had lots of fun.
In our next art session with Miss Smith we created collages in the style of Picasso.
In science we did another experiment to see how all of our bodies are different. We measured our height, hand size, shoe size and how far we could jump. We made some super predictions and findings.
We learned about timelines in history and worked in groups to order the stages of life.
In maths we learned about mass and measured the mass of lots of objects in our classroom!
