Hot and Cold

Our topic this half-term is called Hot and Cold and we will begin our learning by exploring Winter.

Our core text this half term is: Here Comes Jack Frost by Kazuno Kohara.

Stuck in the ice!

The children became scientists to help save the penguins that had become frozen in the ice.  We tested 3 different things; salt, hot water and cold water, to see which would work the best.  The children made their predictions and they then tested them to see if they predicted correctly.

Hot and Cold

The children have been sorting animals into two categories based on whether they live in a hot or cold country.  In provision, the children decided to create their own zoo.  They created different habitats based on which type of country the animals live in.

Making Bird Feeders

The children enjoyed making their very own bird feeders.  The children learnt that because it is Winter there isn't enough food for the birds and it's very important to feed them during this season.

It's Winter!

The children had lots of fun exploring the and playing in the snow.  We walked through the snow and ice and listened to the sound it made.  We held the ice in our hands for as long as we could until our hands became too cold!

In the classroom we talked about the signs of Winter and what happens.  We talked about how we need to keep warm in Winter by wearing a hat, scarf and gloves and having lots of warm drinks.

Our Outdoor Classroom

The children really enjoyed their first time in our Outdoor Classroom.  They enjoyed exploring the space and creating their own learning.  We made lots of bird feeders to make sure that the birds have enough food during Winter.

The children found an 'egg' that had fallen from a nest.  We decided to build a nest for it to keep it safe and warm.

Our Fashion Boutique!

The children have shown an interest in creating their own 'boutique' in Class 3.  We have lots of lovely clothes, shoes and accessories.  They have enjoyed creating different outfits for their 'customers'.
