Our Year 1 Winter Performance!
We had a super time delivering the winter performance, we did so well, sang beautifully and all our teachers, parents and friends were so proud !
Rabbits!
We have been learning all about Rabbits this term linking with our Science learning on animals. We have studied our school pet rabbits and learnt about how to keep them healthy, what they need, what they eat and lots of fun facts about them. We used all the information we collected to write our own rabbit fact files and sets of instructions on 'how to look after a rabbit!'
In Science we were learning all about whether an animal was a herbivore, carnivore or omnivore. We investigated animal poop to see what each animal ate and matched it up to the right category!
After investigating slot and slider mechanisms we designed and made our very own. We chose and made different characters and decided which joins and mechanisms we wanted to include. We talked about what we could do to make them even better and completed an evaluation of our product!
In D.T we have been exploring slots and sliders. We looked at a variety of flap and pop up books and practised making different slot and slider mechanisms.
In English we have been writing non fiction texts all about 'tortoise habitats' so this week we had a visit from Tango the Tortoise so we could learn all about him! We also linked it to our science learning all about animals and learnt lots of facts about reptiles and herbivores!
Tango the Tortoise!!
We had a very special visitor in Year 1! Tango the tortoise came in and we learnt all about his habitat, his diet and how to look after him. The children could identify that he was a 'reptile' and that he was an 'omnivore' because he eats salad and vegetables.
Science
Today we did some amazing learning with the scientist Steven Lewis Neil. We looked at the habitat of a frog and a mouse and compared the two. We then completed an investigation on the mouse to see which food and shelter it liked the best! We finished off talking about 'autumn' and the different leaves from different trees and created some beautiful art using natural materials.
