My Perfect Pet

Welcome back everyone!

We hope that you have had a wonderful week at home with your families.

This half term our learning will take place around the topic of animals.

Our core text for Autumn 2 is 'Wanted: The Perfect Pet' by Fiona Roberton.

To immerse the children in our new topic we have enjoyed a trip to Blackpool Zoo where the children saw many amazing animals and have learnt a lot about what they eat, how they live and what they look like.

We have been using lots of practical methods to learn about fractions, focusing on halves and quarters!

Mrs Willan brought in her tortoise, Tango, to meet us so we could do some brilliant descriptive writing about tortoise habitats. We loved meeting Tango and learnt that we have to hold him like a burger!

We looked at some moving books to kick off our DT work this year!

We have been exploring colour, line and shape with Miss Scott, focusing on animal prints.

We played cricket in PE with Mr Dave.

Steven Lewis Neille visited us to teach us about animals! We met a beetle, a toad and some mice. We learnt so much and had a brilliant time handling the animals.

In our forest school session today we made bird feeders to help the birds eat through the winter.

We have been learning about capacity in maths and have enjoyed lots of practical activities to help us understand our learning.

In science we have been learning about what animals eat and have learnt about herbivores, omnivores and carnivores. We looked at animal poo to see if we could tell what kind of animal had made the poo based on what they had eaten!

We have used actions to help us remember a story so that we can retell it. The children have worked so hard and can retell the story of the perfect pet brilliantly!
