Spring 1 - Hot and Cold

Lunar New Year
The children have been learning all about the celebration of the Lunar New Year. We learnt about all the special traditions and how people celebrate this festival.
We found out that red and and gold are special colours; red means good luck and gold means wealth. We watched videos of a dragon dance and a lion dance.
In class we made a dragon and tried our very own dragon dance!
Class 3's Dragon Dance
Birds
The children have been learning how to take care of the birds during winter. We have made different types of bird feeders because during Winter the birds' struggle to find food.
We also learnt that some birds 'migrate' to warmer countries during our Winter.
After that the children then made their own binoculars and a bird hide so that we could watch the birds in our outdoor classroom. We saw lots of different birds and we were very lucky to see a flock of geese flying over school!
Hot and Cold
This term, the children have been learning all about hot and cold. We have looked at different animals that live in these places and looked at similarities and differences.
The children enjoyed playing in the snow. We built snowmen and had a snowball fight!
Following on from all the cold weather that we have had, the children wanted to 'go' somewhere hot. In class, we watched different clips of tropical islands and decided to make our very own tropical island. We had sun loungers, a barbecue and a cafe were you could buy drinks and ice-creams!
