Our topic this half-term was 'What If...?'.
Our key text is Mr Wolf and the Three Bears by Jan Fearnley. We are going to use the text to describe all the food that Mr Wolf made for Baby Bear's birthday party, and the main characters in the story. We are going to explore the different characters feelings and personalities by writing letters and used the main plot to write our own innovated versions.
In English we looked at some Marks and Spencer’s adverts and collected the vocabulary they used to describe the food. We then looked at the table that Mr Wolf had got ready for Baby Bear’s party! We then wrote descriptions of the food on the table! They were so good that we emailed them to Marks and Spencers and they sent us a £50 voucher! We are all so proud!
In art, we are studying William Morris. We are going to find out about his use of nature in his artwork and use view-finders to ‘zoom in’ on his designs. To support our science learning on living things, we are going to look at different leaves and create designs to turn into stampers. We will create our stamps using foam and use them to make repeating-pattern prints using paint. We created wrapping paper. On Mothers Day we wrapped some daffodils in the paper and made a card.
Geography
Our geography learning this half-term is linked to our English topic of traditional tales. We started by looking at fairy stories and sorting the human and physical features we found. We are going to look at features we would include in our own fairy tale lands and create maps, including symbols in a key. We will use our maps to show how characters could move between the features and compass points to describe the routes.
RE
The religion we are learning about in RE is Hinduism, and the practices of Hindu worship. We are going to find out about devotion and explore what and who we are devoted to. We will then talk about the different ways we show our devotion and the things that are special to ourselves. We will talk about the different ways we can show gratitude and respect to the people who really matter to us.
After looking at different pictures of Hindu deities, we will talk about why they are portrayed the way they are. We will look at the ritual of Hindu worship and learn about the different items on the puja tray and compare prayer at home with prayer at a mandir.
In Music we are learning Rock! We are learning the sing ‘I wanna be in a band!’
Science
Our topic in science this half-term is Living Things and their Habitats. We will continue to study this topic in the second half of the Spring term.
We will start by recapping what we remember from Year 1 by naming and classifying different animals. We will then look at the processes of living things (MRS GREN!) and compare things that are living, dead and things that have never been alive. We will look at how energy is transferred between living things and describe simple food chains.
Building Bridges
We met the Year 2 children from St Thomas’ School at the Leisure Box. We met new friends, played games and learnt about each other. We had a great time and can’t wait for them to come and visit our school.
