Exploring ICE!!

This week in topic, we have been learning all about the season Winter. We did lots of learning all about what happens in Winter and the ice and snow! The children explored the snow and how it felt. We did some ice paintings, cold colour paintings and painted Winter scenes and characters.

In Maths, we have been exploring and consolidating our understanding of the part, part, whole model and have been using it to help us with our addition. We have been practically exploring the PPW and then recording our findings with jottings.

Bird Feeders...

We have continued to do lots of super learning all about the season Winter and this led us to thinking about the animals in Winter. We thought about how the animals might stay warm and get their food. We discussed that it must be very hard for the birds to find their food in Winter so we needed to help them!! We made our own bird feeders and then put them in our Forest School for the birds to eat!

Forest School...

It was also so much fun to explore forest school for the first time and notice the seasonal changes from Autumn to Winter.

Snowstorm poems...

In Literacy, we have been looking at the book 'Once upon a snowstorm'. We identified that this story is a little bit different to the other books we usually read because it has no words; it is a picture book and we have to tell our own story!

We then told the story together, made our own snowflake dances and wrote our own snowstorm poems.

Exploring Hot...

This week in topic, we have been exploring hot habitats and animals that would live there. The children explored the different animals and their features and then completed observational drawings of them. We also made our own hot colour cards and explored different hot colours and colour mixing to create them!

Melting and Freezing...

This week in topic, we have bee exploring melting and freezing. We did an experiment to find out what would melt the ice and free the polar bears! We used cold water, salt and hot water to see which would work. We discovered through our experiment that the hot water melted the ice the quickest!

Shapes...

In Maths, we have been exploring 2D and 3D shapes. We have been exploring their properties and sorting them into the correct groups.

Chinese New Year...

This week in topic, we have been learning all about Chinese New Year and how people might celebrate it. We did our own Chinese writing, did some traditional dancing and also made our own lanterns!
