Welcome to Reception!
It has been a pleasure welcoming all your lovely children to Class 1. The children have settled so well into our class routines and we have been having lots of fun exploring our indoor and outdoor classrooms together.
This half term our topic is called ‘Me and My World’. We are going to be doing lots of learning about ourselves, our families and what makes us who we are!
Our core text we are reading in Literacy this half-term is:
Shark in the Park by Nick Sharratt.

We are really enjoying our daily fun phonics sessions and we have been busy learning lots of new phonemes (sounds). The phonemes that we will be learning in the first half term are:
s a t p i n m d g o c k ck
Please help your child consolidate these at home by practising reading the sounds and words in their red phonics books.
Thank you :)
We have been busy in our classroom practising our letter formation...
Mark Making by exploring the artist Alma Thomas
This week as part of our topic learning class 1 have been focusing on art in the style of Alma Thomas. We used her work as inspiration to create our own masterpieces by using many different mark making tools.
All About Me!
This week as part of our topic learning class 1 have been discussing themselves, describing their features and talking about their likes and dislikes, such as what they like to play with, what foods they like to eat and what they like to do with their families. Alongside this they have been creating their self-portraits using different media and materials in our indoor and outdoor classrooms.
Me, My Family and My House
This week as part of our topic learning we have been discussing our families. We have talked about who is in our family and have named the family members, e.g. Mummy, Daddy, Brother, Sister, Grandma, Grandad, Auntie, Uncle etc. We have discussed what we like to do with our families when we are at home. Some groups of children have talked more about their house, what it looks like and who lives in it.
Healthy and Unhealthy
This week as part of our topic learning we have been talking about our favourite foods. Alongside this we have talked about what foods are healthy and unhealthy and have discussed the names of many fruits and vegetables. The children have each made a ‘fruit face’ choosing their favourite fruits and have also sorted Mrs Harries’ bag of shopping onto a ‘healthy food plate’ and an ‘unhealthy food plate'.
Exploring Autumn
This week as part of our topic learning we visited our forest school to look for signs of Autumn. We saw many beautiful coloured leaves that had fallen from the trees and we talked about the colours we could see. We found lots of other natural treasures such as pine cones, chestnuts, berries and conkers. On returning to our classroom we created a map of our walk and also explored many autumn treasures through our art work.
