Nursery Rhymes (Autumn 1)

We had a very rainy start to our nursery year! We enjoyed learning all about the rain! We created some wonderful rainy art work, enjoyed wearing wellies and using umbrellas outside, and created our own 'rain' in our water tray!

Our topic this half term is nursery rhymes.

Research shows that the number of nursery rhymes a young child knows can help predict how successful they’ll be as a reader later on. We want our children to learn and sing lots of nursery rhymes together!

The first nursery rhyme we have been learning is 'Twinkle twinkle little star'

Can you sing along at home?

We used Van Gogh’s Starry Night as inspiration for our learning! Using loose parts, we created our own starry skies and explored mark-making with paints and pens, using the colours we spotted in his artwork. Finally, we worked together to create our very own Starry Night masterpiece!

We enjoyed learning all about the nursery rhyme ‘Baa Baa Black Sheep’!

We used wool to make different kinds of marks, helping to develop our fine motor control.

We also learned all about the number 3! We practised counting to three and recognising the numeral. We counted out three objects from a larger group, working on developing our understanding of the cardinal principle.

We have been doing lots of fun activities to develop our early mark making skills!

We had a wonderful week learning all about Apples. We have been singing the number rhyme '5 little apples' to help develop our early maths skills!
