This half term in Class 3 we are learning all about different celebrations, our topic is called ‘Sparkle and Shine.’ We will be learning about Diwali, Bonfire Night, Eid, Birthdays, Weddings and Christmas!

Bonfire Night...

In our first week back we have done lots of learning all about Bonfire Night and how we might celebrate this. We talked about fireworks and how we will see lots of them on Bonfire Night!

In our Literacy learning we have been practicing a bonfire poem and having a go at making our own. In topic we have learnt about how to be safe around the fireworks, created beautiful firework pictures and done some amazing firework dances!

Diwali...

We have also been doing lots of learning all about the Festival of Light....Diwali!

In topic we made our own Diva lamps with clay, created rangoli patterns and  practiced bhangra dancing.

We have also been learning about Diwali in Literacy and we have been exploring the story 'The Best Diwali Ever'. The children learnt about all the ways Diwali is celebrated and what foods are eaten. We then made a recipe about how to make Chapatis and then got to taste them!

Birthdays...

As part of our celebrations topic, we have done lots of super learning all about our birthdays.

We looked at our birthday pictures, how we have changed at each birthday and what a birthday actually is!

In Literacy, the children made their own party dinner and then wrote amazing captions about this!

Developing our mathematical understanding...

We have also explored lots of new learning in Maths. We have been consolidating our number knowledge to 10, looking at greater than and less than, and also starting to use our Part, Part, Whole model for addition and subtraction!

Christmas...

We have also had a super fun time exploring Christmas!

We started off our celebrations with planting a bean, which then magically grew into our beautiful Christmas tree. The children then did an amazing job at decorating our tree and making our classroom super festive.

We then also explored Christmas by looking at the Christmas story, making party hats for our Christmas party and making beautiful Christmas cards!

We also had a great time celebrating Christmas with our families at the Christmas craft afternoon and the children made lots of amazing Christmas artwork!!

Finally, we had a lovely day celebrating Christmas with our Christmas lunch, party and seeing Santa!!
