Our core text this half-term is The Darkest Dark by Chris Hadfield.
We will use the text to write character and setting descriptions and to inspire our own stories based on the plot.
In science this half term we will be learning about plants. We started our topic by revisiting what we learnt in Year 1, showing what we already know about plants. We planted some bean seeds and we will be observing changes over time. We also set up an investigation to see what a plant needs to grow.
In DT we investigated moving vehicles and their wheels and axels. We will use this knowledge and experience to help us design our own moon buggy.
We then built the body of our moon buggies.
We then finished making our moon buggies by adding decoration and customising them. We tested our moon buggies so we could evaluate them.
Look at our finished products!
In music this half term we are working with Mrs Brunton. We will be learning the song ‘Friendship.’ This week we practised playing along to the music by playing the correct notes.
We looked at pictures from the moon landing. We thought about what evidence the pictures give us, what we could infer and what we wanted to find out. Then we learnt about the moon landing and ordered a timeline of events.
In P.E our focus is athletics and multi skills. We will be working on our throwing, catching, agility and balance. This will also help us get ready for sports day.
On Friday 8th May we celebrated David Attenborough’s 100th birthday! We had an amazing day starting with a drama workshop with Burnley Youth Theatre. We then had an art workshop with Mrs Wilkinson and finished the day by weeding our class planter and planting lots of vegetables!
We had a fantastic afternoon taking part in sports day. We worked well as a class team and had lots of fun showing off our athletic skills.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
