Our core texts this half term are Sam Plants a Sunflower by Kate Petty and
Axel Scheffler and Jack and the Beanstalk by Ladybird First Favourite Tales.

Growing Sunflowers!
Following on from reading Sam Plants a Sunflower, the children wanted to grow their own sunflowers. We talked about what we would need to grow sunflowers and how we would look after them so that they would grow as big and beautiful as the ones in the story.
As a next step to this activity we have looked more closely at the different parts of a flower/plant. The children deconstructed a flower and sorted it into its different parts: flower, petal, stem, leaf and roots . We then talked about why each part is important to the flower/plant. The children choose to reconstruct their own individual flower using the parts. Other children choose to draw and paint some flowers from observation.
Life Cycle of a Frog
This week we have been learning about the life cycle of a frog. We have visited the pond at forest school to look for frogspawn and tadpoles. We have brought the tadpoles back into our classroom to observe them change into froglets and hopefully little frogs! On returning from exploring the pond and catching tadpoles some children choose draw and paint the parts of the frog life cycle and others created a pond using reggio materials and loose parts from our classroom.
A Visit from a Scientist!
What an amazing experience we had this week at school - we were lucky enough to have a visit from Steven Lewis-Neill, a scientist who loves the great outdoors and minibeasts! He brought many minibeasts in to show us including snails, spiders, woodlice and slugs! Some of us were brave enough to hold them in our hands! We even got to meet his pet toad too!
Sports Day!
What a fantastic time we had on Sports Day! The children really enjoyed joining in all the exciting games that Mrs Hutton had set up for us outside. We loved seeing our Mummy's and Daddy's cheering us on too!
Happy 100th Birthday Sir David Attenborough!
What fun we had celebrating Sir David Attenborough's 100th birthday!
After reading a book about his life and his work with animals we decided to look closely at the work he had carried out with sea turtles. We did lots of amazing art work by drawing and painting turtles using lots of different techniques. We even worked as a team to create a giant turtle using recycled materials to promote Sir David Attenborough work on saving our planet.
Following on from this we a picnic together at lunchtime and then had a lovely session in forest school! What a day to remember! Fabulous fun!
A Visit to Thornton Hall Farm
This week as part of our topic learning we visited Thornton Hall Farm. We got to see and feed many different animals. We talked about how to look farm animals and what we use them for in our daily lives. We met deer, cows, llamas, goat, sheep, pigs, rabbits and guinea pigs. We had so much fun playing in the soft play area and on the jumping pillows too!
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
