This half term we have our new summer project 'Every Hat Tells A Story'. We choose a space helmet for our hat so we will be doing lots of super learning all about space! We are going to be learning lots about space, astronauts, galaxies, stars, planets and much, much more! 

Our core texts are: Living in space, Neil Armstrong and the Moon Landings and Whatever Next. 

In Phonics this half term, we will be consolidating the phonemes, digraphs, trigraphs and tricky words that we have learnt throughout Reception.

Space and Galaxies...

This week, we have been learning all about space and what is in space! We learnt about our solar system and what planets are in the solar system. The children learnt the names of all of the planets and some interesting facts about them. We then created our own planets, large scale space scene and galaxy inspired pictures.

Stars and their Constellations...

This week, we have been exploring stars. We learnt about different stars and different star constellations. The children learnt which star constellation is theirs and then created star constellation art work. We made stars, used cotton buds to make the constellations and did some threading.  

Famous Astronauts...

This week we have done lots of super learning all about astronauts. We learnt about how to become an astronaut and famous astronauts who have been to space. The children can recall so many facts about famous astronauts like Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, Michael Collins and we even did some super learning about the recent moon mission, Artemis 2. The children created some amazing astronaut artwork as well as some brilliant rocket paintings. 

Gravity...

This week, we have done lots of super learning about gravity. We found out what gravity is and how it works. We conducted an experiment to tets Issac Newton's Theory of gravity- we wanted to see if out rocket would float or fall back to the ground. Can your children explain our findings from the experiment?
